You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord, Who abide in His shadow for life, Say to the Lord, "My Refuge, My Rock in Whom I trust."
And He will raise you up on eagle's wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His Hand.
The snare of the fowler will never capture you, And famine will bring you no fear; Under His Wings your refuge, His faithfulness your shield.
And He will raise you up on eagle's wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His Hand.
You need not fear the terror of the night, Nor the arrow that flies by day, Though thousands fall about you, Near you it shall not come.
And He will raise you up on eagle's wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His Hand.
For to His angels He's given a command, To guard you in all of your ways, Upon their hands they will bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.
And He will raise you up on eagle's wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His Hand. And hold you in the palm of His Hand.
Response to an earlier comment: I see it as a reference to Isaiah 40:31...."those who wait on the Lord....shall mount up with wings like eagles."
Hope this helps. Blessings.

I like this as a prayer to get through difficult times. It works as a universal prayer for just about any situation whether it be said for yourself or as a prayer for others.

I don't think of this as a funeral hymm. I understand that it what it was written as. I think of being lifted on eagles wings as God carrying me through difficult times to the breath of dawn when I am strong enough to stand as a vessel of light. Maybe it's just wishful thinking but I am struggling just now and I find strength and solace in it

Our Pastor spontaneously read a portion of this hymn at my Fathers funeral, I know he would have loved it :) Today we must attend a memorial service for a newborn boy who passed away at birth; the same Pastor will preside, I was awoken this morning to hear a flute instrumental of "On Angels Wings" I can honestly say,… the most comforting morning I’ve had since our daughter passed in July of 2019. Thank You Holy Spirit, ❤️✝️🕊🦋
Flora Tan: Hi Dawn! Am so blessed to read this. That our Father has brought comfort to you thru this hymn.

Then and now by: Anonymous
A friend sang this song at my son's funeral many years ago. I was numb at the time and didn't really appreciate the words. I attended another funeral today; that of a very dear friend's husband. I heard this song once again and it brought a very emotional response as if I was really hearing it for the first time. It gave so much comfort for then and now.

Joncas Wings by: arj
Read the real Psalm 91 from the Bible and you will understand the liberties Michael Joncas took with the text of the "Psalm." It is a paraphrase, almost blasphemy, as it is not being raised on EAGLE'S wings, but on the wings of ANGELS. Pretty song, yes. Psalm, NO.

On Angel's Wings was the recessinal at my wife's funeral. I sang it as we walked behind her casket that day. When I reached the final verse, it came out like this unexpectantly
And He will raise you up on eagle's wings, Bear you on the breath of dawn, Make you to shine like the sun, And hold you in the palm of His Hand. And hold you, hold you in my arms , . . once again.
I don't know where it came from, except from my heart. I miss her and long to hold her once again.
